THE AREA

We are tucked in the tranquil countryside of the South Hams and provides a relaxed, unspoiled environment in a beautiful setting with magnificent, scenic coastline only a short walk away . . .. and makes a ideal base for touring the West Country, for a quiet sea-side break, or for simply enjoying the many rural and sporting activities and family attractions this wonderful area has to offer.

HOPE COVE
Five minutes drive down through the valley . . .. a delightful old fishing village with its picturesque square of quaint thatched cottages. Safe sandy beaches, where the family can relax. Boating and fishing are available for the more energetic with easy launching and ideal for the diving enthusiasts who love to explore the numerous wrecks scattered throughout Bigbury Bay and round the coastline to Salcombe and Start Point. There are two friendly Inns, serving good bar food, two attractive restaurants, a village store and post office and a beach shop.

THURLESTONE
(South Milton Sands)

Ten minutes to a wonderful sandy beach were one can park alongside. Great rock pools at low tide. Small beach café and windsurfing with tuition available. There is a peaceful Nature Reserve to the back of the beach, which boasts the sightings of many rare species (Cyril buntings to name but one). The village itself has a popular Inn with good pub food and a superb 18-hole links golf course.

MALBOROUGH
Our local village just a five minutes drive. There is a Spar mini supermarket at the filling station open from 7am to 10pm daily and a separate Post Office in the Church square. Here again there are two friendly Inns serving good bar food.

SALCOMBE
Ten minutes drive . . . . is a Jewel of the South Hams . . . . this delightful little town lies on its own magnificent estuary which is laced with numerous safe sandy beaches and coves, is perfect for families and is extremely popular with sailing and water sport enthusiasts.

There are numerous estuary,coastal and fishing trips available....well worth going on. There is an excellent selection of places to eat, with or without children, waterside Inns, Restaurants, Bistros and Cafes.

BIGBURY-on-SEA and BURGH ISLAND
A sea tractor links them at high tide, and at low tide there is a wonderful beach, great for all types of boarding.

BANTHAM
A lovely sandy beach with dunes and beautiful views.
Good surfing and body-boarding.

KINGSBRIDGE
A fifteen minute drive, is our local market town, supplying the community with a supermarket, banks, building societies and a host of traditional shops,with Market Stalls
on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Quay Leisure Centre provides the area with a new indoor swimming pool, sqash and badminton courts. There is a `River Maid` ferry service from Kingsbridge to Salcombe.

TOTNES
A historical town full of character...cafes, arts and craft markets and country fayre.

DARTMOUTH
A 40 minute drive along the scenic coast road, hosts a wealth of Naval history as well as the famous Royal College. A variety of interesting shops and galleries, with a great choice of coastal, river and fishing trips. The Round Robin is very popular... it includes a steam train ride along the River Dart and over to Torbay, the English Riviera.

We are an ideal base for touring this part of the Westcountry; a seaside holiday with many family attractions, or simply enjoying the numerous rural and sporting activities the wonderful area has to offer.
